Annihilation

Postby ed » Thu Mar 15, 2018 2:58 pm

Interesting flick. Chicks as Rambos or Rambettes maybe.

Initial premise: "something" has landed and set up a flickering perimeter that is growing in diameter. This happened 3 years ago and teams (all men, natch) have been sent in not to return. The "authorities" know nothing after all this time.

Chick #1 (lead whose name escapes me) has her husband come back as the first survivor of an expedition. He is, naturally, fucked up so she joins the next, all chick (natch) expedition to find the whoosis.

Spoilers and unsolicited opinions from here on out

Spoiler:
Chick #1 and Chicks #2-#5 head off. Their radios don't work but they determine that the "whoosis" seems to be altering genetic structure. A finding. In fairness, this is the first time that people who are scientifically trained, even if they are chicks, have entered the area.

Observation #1: That is enough reason to get out of Dodge. A finding when after 3 years there is nada. Bring a sample and get the fuck out.

Noooooooooo..... we have to go on. Insert Predator screenplay for the next 3 hours. Minor chicks get knocked up off, they persevere for reasons that are questionable at best. All the while seeing the genetic oddities that the "authorities" really really ought to know about. I mean REALLY ought to know about.

Finally Chick #1 contacts the alien.

Final spoilers here

The alien takes her form and her human body is destroyed along with everything else. ie no evidence.
She is reunited with hubby who has gotten better. He, too (surprise) is a clone. They embrace.

Observation #2 Sequel set up is complete

Sorta ok. Well made with plot holes you can drive a semi thru. Could'a been better.

Wait for Netflix I think.

Worth the price of admission to see chick scientists who have never handled a gun wield m-16s.

I didn't care for it. The whole thing was....unnecessarily vague.

Yeah but don't you think that there was a puppy in there somewhere? Pity. Lost opportunity.

I just finished watching it on Netflix. It was OK but pretty forgettable.

Not much to add to what's been said already.
