Kim Jong Un crossed the line.

Analysis: Kim Jung Un never really wanted to be dictator. His dad pushed him into it. His whole career is characterized by trying to get out.

He may end up as a jet setter in Europe or something of the sort.

Yeah...dictators tend to become prisoners of their own regime. I'm sure the military junta and the ruling family would cause him to vanish if he ever stops keeping his mind right.

Re: the closing of the nuclear testing facility...I'm guessing it's already defunct because of the probable collapse of that portion of the mountain some time ago.

Research by Chinese geologists suggests that the mountain above North Korea's main nuclear test site has likely collapsed, rendering it unsafe for further testing and requiring that it be monitored for any leaking radiation.

A study by Chinese geologists shows the mountain above North Korea's main nuclear test site has collapsed under the stress of the explosions, rendering it unsafe for further testing and necessitating monitoring for any leaking radiation. The findings by the scientists at the University of Science and Technology of China may shed new light on North Korean President Kim Jong Un's announcement that his country was ceasing its testing program.

The findings by the scientists at the University of Science and Technology of China may shed new light on North Korean President Kim Jong Un's announcement that his country was ceasing its testing program ahead of planned summit meetings with South Korean President Moon Jae-in and U.S. President Donald Trump.

The results also support some of the findings of an earlier study by another group of Chinese researchers that was published last month by the journal Geophysical Research Letters.

Nuclear explosions release enormous amounts of heat and energy, and the North's largest test in September was believed early on to have rendered the site in northeastern North Korea unstable.

He didn't choose it, Pyrrho.

And unlike the old European monarchies, he can't just abdicate.

North Korea has been the top story all of my non-tech news sources. Both American and non. It's not getting reported on, my ass.
It's "pea-can", man.

https://www.defense.gov/News/Transcript ... er-marius/

Q: Could we ask just one quick one on North Korea? If there is a peace treaty that's reached, as they talked about in Panmunjom earlier today, do -- do U.S. troops need to stay stationed on the Korean Peninsula?

SEC. MATTIS: Well, that's part of the issues that we'll be discussing in the negotiations with our allies first and, of course, with North Korea. So, I think for right now, we just have to go along with the process, have the negotiations, and not try to make preconditions or presumptions about how it's going to go. We -- the diplomats are going to have to go to work now.

Q: Mr. Secretary, Poland would like to host more U.S. troops on its soil, what's your answer?

SEC. MATTIS: Well, Poland is a NATO ally. We host troops in NATO according to the needs of security. And so, we're always open to those discussions.

Q: Mr. Secretary, do you trust North Korea? Do you trust that it will carry out its part of the bargain?

SEC. MATTIS: This is about international relations. This is about negotiations and we will build, through confidence-building measures, a degree of trust if it's going to go forward. So we'll see how things go. I don't have a crystal ball. I can tell you we are optimistic right now that there's opportunity here that we have never enjoyed since 1950. So, we're going to have to see what they produce; but, that's going to take diplomats working and I'm not going to calculate in advance of anything. But thanks very much for coming up, ladies and gentlemen.

Some of those questions reporters ask to Mattis: I wonder sometimes if the reporter asking it is really so stupid, or they just need to ask anyway to get a quote.

Mr. Secretary, do you trust North Korea? Do you trust that it will carry out its part of the bargain?

I think he gave a good answer. Obviously in this case either a simple "yes" or "no" would be the wrong answer.
Of course we don't trust them, but we still have to deal with them. If there's a possibility for a peaceful solution we have to pursue it and see where it leads.

That was my thought too, but journalists don't seem to talk much about that – presumably it would somehow diminish the Incredible Peace Progress©.

There isn't much either, at least in the main press, on NorK's economic situation (on the brink of collapse?) and China's tiredness with Kim's antics (e. g. what I posted in the NorK appreciation thread).

Nor about Russia (who worked on increasing its ties with NorK).

But we are well-informed about the switch to a common timezone…

Kim Jong probably understands that you deal from a high bargaining hand. Like by firing some missiles past Japan. That's when you come to the table to make peace so you don't start out by giving away the farm. It's almost like he read 'Art of the Deal'.

He just wants baby back ribs at Chili's and to bang some whores in Vegas.
