My 22-year marriage didn’t survive Trump’s election
NY Post

My guess is that marriage was kind of on the rocks already.

Eventually, Bill changed his mind about Trump and wrote-in former House of Representatives Speaker Newt Gingrich in November — but Gayle had decided it was too late to make their marriage great again.
Bill acquiesced. She realized that Bill was weak. Nothing could save him then. Bill is a pussy. He's also a dumbass but that is beside the point. A woman can love a dumbass, but not a weakling.

Yes.

That is a story that required a heterosexual perspective for complete understanding. :BigGrin3:

"Trump made me break the rules of the Senate" -Pocahontas

Senators get shut up all the time since it does have rules of order. Pocahontas tried impugning Sessions under the "I'm just reading a letter" excuse and got shut the fuck up.

Now today the entire Internet is white-knighting her.

From what I was reading this morning she fell afoul of a "collegiality" rule. Basically a Civility Rule and she wasn't even allowed to appeal to Linda. All the BS about "censoring" Corretta Scott King's words aside, it was a bullshit move on the Senate's part because if there is any time that a Senator should be allowed to talk smack about another Senator it's when that Senator is up for confirmation for a cabinet post. If he had been retired or had literally any other job at the present time other than "Currently sitting senator who is part of the party that currently controls The Senate" nothing she said would have been out of line. It might have been disputed, argued with, picked apart, whatever else, but she would have been allowed to say it.

Thus, I think being mad at the stupid application of the stupid rule is perfectly justified.

Like I said though, people get shut down all the time in the Senate. The majority of the outrage fits the definition of white knighting.

I think impugning your fellow senators should be a daily _requirement_

They basically White Knighted Sessions to sheild him from criticism, criticism that would have been perfectly allowable had he not been a currently sitting Senator whose party controls the senate. At a time when criticism is exactly the point of the proceeding.

Some outrage is justified at that.

She has to follow the rules same as anybody else.

Probably would have been put in the Box anyways, complainer like her.

Yes she has to follow the rules.

It's a stupid rule though. That should be the point of the outrage.

It has a very long parliamentary tradition. There are certain things you "cannot do" to maintain decorum in what can be a contentious place. Granted, the US Senate has become about as exciting as an MMA fight in a nursing home, but that was not always the history what with senators and congressmen showing up armed and threatening to fight duels.

Granted, Ol' Mad Denis gets tossed relatively frequently. Fauxcahontas did not have to leave.

Be that as it may, if she and her ilk wish to remain butt-hurt and play with the rules she is going to have the rules played against her.

It is the way she wants it. Well . . . she gets it!

I don't like it, anymore than you men. . . .

The senate is full of crafty people. You can indeed impugn your fellow senators as long as you do it "the right way". If you watch his confirmation hearings, you basically see him get raked over hot coals.

It's sorta like the old JREF forum. When you make clear rules about what being uncivil is, the vipers will still be uncivil but figure out how to do it within the framework.

If anyone should be allowed to have the piss taken out of them fairly or unfairly it should be a US lawmaker.

It is from such practice we get infamous quotes "the honorable gentleman plays loose with the truth," because, in the UK Parliament, you cannot accuse another member of lying. As corps suggests, it has become a point of pride and accolade to insult another member without insulting him.

The Senate was suppose to be a House of Lords--the fuckers were "elected" by the legislatures of the states since we cannot trust the mere proles to choose Wise and Learn'd Hacks.

We love to show videos of fights in parliaments from "the Colonies"--oh those quaint natives!--but historically, that happened. The set-up of the British parliament is such to keep members of opposite sides more than what was a two standard sword lengths:

Image

keep behind those red lines you Imperialist Taxation without Representationistas!

In a way, things are easier. No one forces a party to run an actual filibuster--actually continue to hold the floor. They still do that in the UK but there is a time limit in that you can "talk out" a bill you do not like. Now, it just becomes clear the party will, they check the cloture numbers, then they table whatever it was and go back to molesting their pages and sucking the dicks/snatches of the In'erests. I am trying to remember whether it was George the Younger or Clinton who tried to get his party to force a R34lz filibuster with the Senate bringing in cots and the like. There were complaints, from both sides, about how that is "not fair." I mean, they had "old people" like Senator Grand Dragon Byrd and I think still Senator Al Davis Strom Thrumond, so no one could expect such to sit up late at night.

Meh.

It is the hypocrisy I find so distasteful. Not surprising, mind you.

Insofar as the "story" is a bunch of real Tweets, it isn't fake news it's real non-news.

In keeping with the OP, the Tweets are a fashion statement.

Not even an attempt to sway others.

Even at that, out of all the tweets they found only two of them said what the headline claimed, that the DeVos confirmation made them decide not to have kids. And out of the two, one of them the person said they were on the fence about having kids any way so the confirmation just made them make their decision. All of the rest said that they were already not going to have kids and the DeVos confirmation just made them even more satisfied with that choice. Not the same thing.

So, even LOOKING for people who decided not to have kids because of Trump, they couldn't find more than 1 1/2 examples that matched the headline they wanted to write. So not Fake News in the real sense of the term, but definitely misleading clickbait for conservatives.

It's not really fake news unless it would be news if it weren't fake.

Yet another category then: fake non-news. 8)
