At least the Kindle version doesn't consume much memory space....

Really? That surprises me. It's the same format as epub but arranged different because Bezo thought it would be cool to have his own.

I looked at a bunch of latest e-books on Gutenberg (so the sample should be random), taking the liberty to assume 1 kB = 0.001 MB:

Depends of course how they have been generated/converted. For some technical details: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/8996895/why-are-epub-files-so-much-smaller-than-mobi-or-pdf-files-for-the-same-book.

For scanned documents, nothing is up to djvu ("DéjàVu"). 8)

I was attempting sarcasm. I have no idea really.

That's very surprising. Thanks for that.

Of the many free kindle books I bought today, the title of this one caught my eye and seems noteworthy. (Or maybe not.)

The Parable of the Dumbass by Antonio Scotto Di Carlo

I haven't read it, although I confess my curiosity has been tickled.

Also from today's amazon basket of goodies, I like this title even better than the one above:

The Mathematical Proof for Christianity by Dan Delzell

Oh my. :o :LOL2:

The Mathematical Proof for Christianity by Dan Delzell

Oh my. :o :LOL2:

I seem to recall something ...

http://www.obooksbooks.com/2015/4472_33.html

I love the internet. :)

Aldous Huxley wrote: ...

‘Edward, is that you?’ said a deep voice, not unlike Lord Edward’s own. ‘This is me. Edward, I’ve just this moment discovered a most extraordinary mathematical proof of the existence of God, or rather of…’

‘But this isn’t Lord Edward,’ shouted Illidge. ‘Wait. I’ll ask him to come.’ He turned back to the Old Man. ‘It’s Lord Gattenden,’ he said. ‘He’s just discovered a new proof of the existence of God.’ He did not smile, his tone was grave. Gravity in the circumstances was the wildest derision. The statement made fun of itself. Laughing comment made it less, not more, ridiculous. Marvellous old imbecile! Illidge felt himself revenged for all the evening’s humiliations. ‘A mathematical proof,’ he added, more seriously than ever.

‘Oh dear!’ exclaimed Lord Edward, as though something deplorable had happened. Telephoning always made him nervous. He hurried to the instrument. ‘Charles, is that…’

‘Ah, Edward,’ cried the disembodied voice of the head of the family from forty miles away at Gattenden. ‘Such a really remarkable discovery. I wanted your opinion on it. About God. You know the formula, m over nought equals infinity, m being any positive number? Well, why not reduce the equation to a simpler form by multiplying both sides by nought? In which case you have m equals infinity times nought. That is to say that a positive number is the product of zero and infinity. Doesn’t that demonstrate the creation of the universe by an infinite power out of nothing? Doesn’t it?’ The diaphragm of the telephone receiver was infected by Lord Gattenden’s excitement, forty miles away. It talked with breathless speed; its questions were earnest and insistent. ‘Doesn’t it, Edward?’ All his life the fifth marquess had been looking for the absolute. It was the only sort of hunting possible to a cripple. For fifty years he had trundled in his wheeled chair at the heels of the elusive quarry. Could it be that he had now caught it, so easily, and in such an unlikely place as an elementary school-book on the theory of limits? It was something that justified excitement. ‘What’s your opinion, Edward?’

‘Well,’ began Lord Edward, and at the other end of the electrified wire, forty miles away, his brother knew, from the tone in which that single word was spoken, that it was no good. The Absolute’s tail was still unsalted.

Good find, Abdul. I haven't read that one (yet), but I have the ebook.

Aldous Huxley wrote: ... You know the formula, m over nought equals infinity, m being any positive number? Well, why not reduce the equation to a simpler form by multiplying both sides by nought? Um, no. :)

What it demonstrates is that you can play word games and dress them up with mathematics. Even the clever mention of the theory of limits doesn't legitimize the proposed argument.

But y'all knew that already.

Not having read the book, I don't know Huxley's resolution to this question.

The fundamental flaw in the argument, in case anyone wanted to hear me say it, seems to be that mathematical models are descriptive, not prescriptive. The universe is under no obligation to conform to the mathematical mumblings of any of God's sentient creations.

:P

Huxley became a drug guru later, but at the time he was pretty much atheist rationalist.

Sometimes characters in novels are really the author, but not this particular character. :lmao:

And if they have been correctly brewed, the scanned text is searchable (OCR embedded). 8)

Salting the tail refers to the old wives tale that if you can put salt on the tail of a bird, it cannot fly away and you can capture it.

I can state that I have empirical proof that it is bs, tried it as a tad.

It's not free on amazon, ergo doesn't count. :P

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CGANIZG/

But I put it on my watch list anyway, so if the author ever decides to offer it free as a promotional gimmick, I'll have a decent chance of snagging it.

Edited to add: Umm, sorry, I didn't mean to distract from your point.

Not necessarily all free (but DRM-free) and not necessarily Kindle, but there are lots of links to books on this page:
https://www.defectivebydesign.org/guide/ebooks

You'll sort it out.
